The FotoFinder success story started at the beginning of the 1990ies when multimedia gained importance. During that time, Rolf and Andreas Mayer, father & son and FotoFinder's managing directors - in those times the company was still called TeachScreen Software GmbH -, saw potential opportunities in digitizing video data and creating digital image databases. The FotoFinder imaging database was born. At first it came to be used by industrial companies.

The next step into the medical field started only a few years later when Rolf Mayer met an influential dermatology professor. It was obvious that an imaging system to monitor moles would highly improve skin cancer diagnostics: The FotoFinder imaging database was quickly extended by a video camera, a special optic for microscopic imaging, and finally a computer system. The FotoFinder dermoscope was born.
Today, FotoFinder is the world market leader in the area of digital dermoscopy and photo documentation in dermatology. Since then the system has been continously developed further and is now in use with several thousand satisfied clients worldwide.

The family-run company FotoFinder Systems GmbH is based in the Bavaria. The FotoFinder network extends over the world with subsidiaries in Italy and the USA and a strong network of partners and distributors. Today, with 20 years of experience and company history, FotoFinder has become the leading manufacturer of imaging systems.

Cooperations with well-known universities and institutes have contributed to the development of several expert systems which help simplify the work with images. Moreover, FotoFinder is an ISO certifed company and their Quality Management System conforms to the latest version of ISO standards (ISO 9001:2008).
